How I bought an apartment in Varna and moved to Bulgaria - a review by Netanela Mesgav

Today we would like to introduce our readers to the story of Netanela Mesgav, who bought an apartment in Varna (Briz district) and moved to Bulgaria from Israel.

“My love for Bulgaria began 40 years ago, when two students from Bulgaria came to study at our institute, and the whole class became close friends with them — they were simply wonderful girls. I visited Varna and met one of them, but then I moved to Israel and we lost touch.

In Israel I got married, and my husband and I used to travel to Bulgaria. We drove along the whole coast and even wanted to buy ourselves a little summer apartment. But my husband was already ill and he passed away not long after. A few years later my mother also passed away, and my daughter and her husband moved to Berlin. I was left on my own in Israel.

I couldn’t travel to Berlin often, my job wouldn’t allow it. On the other hand, the pension together with the proceeds from the sold apartment in Israel was more than enough for an excellent new apartment in Varna.

I started looking for an apartment about 2–3 months in advance and contacted several brokers in Varna. Evgenia (Sales Director at Bulgaria Avenue) impressed me with her openness, her willingness to work, to understand my requests and to study the market specifically for me. That is why, upon arriving in Varna, I bought an apartment on the third day after viewing several, and I am happier with this choice with every passing day. 

After buying the apartment, I fitted it out to my own taste — carried out a renovation and bought new furniture.

I chose Varna because it combines a resort and a large modern city. Not a megacity like Sofia, but not a small provincial town either. Parks, the sea, architecture, theatres, museums — in a word, it has everything.
