Shops in Bulgaria and what you need to consider.

No matter where we are, in Bulgaria or anywhere else, we all shop in malls, supermarkets, shops and so on.

If you have come for a short period of time, you can take advantage of the Tax Free zone. If you are not an EU citizen, for example from Serbia, Russia, Macedonia, Ukraine and so on, you can be refunded around 12% of the cost of any item purchased in Bulgaria. When buying any item on the territory of Bulgaria, you need to request an invoice and fill out a form on the spot to reclaim the VAT amount. The tax in the Republic of Bulgaria is 20% by law; you will get back less than that amount because the agents take their percentage fees.
Where can you find the Tax Free office – at all airports in Bulgaria.
All goods will need to be presented at the Tax Free agency no later than 90 days after purchase, and they must all be without tags and for personal use.

If you are thinking of purchasing Bulgarian cosmetics and more – at reasonable prices and picking up something from the „Bulgarian Rose“ range, I recommend heading to the Elitis shop. This retail chain is located in Varna (there are several), Burgas, Plovdiv, Sofia and in other cities.
There is an excellent shop for cosmetics and household goods called DM, with lots of German cosmetics at low prices and good quality, and there are often discounts. The chain operates all over Bulgaria, in both small and large cities.
You can find a wide range of cosmetics and household goods at the Serbian shop Lilly – you walk in and buy everything you need for yourself and your home.

If you have a business and wish to buy at wholesale prices, reclaiming VAT, then head to the Metro shop, where you can find everything – from food to furniture, appliances, garden items and so on.
You can be a customer either as a private individual by filling in a coupon at the shop entrance, or as a legal entity by getting a club card. The advantage of the shop is a wide range of goods that are not available in other shops. The retail chain is present in all major cities of Bulgaria.

The widespread IKEA chain delivers throughout Bulgaria to any city, and if you live in the big cities – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna – then you can come and choose whatever you wish on the spot, or use the online shop.

Separately, I would like to say a few words about second-hand clothing – there are quite a lot of shops, and items are sold both by the kilogram and individually. You can find a large selection of well-known brands at low/affordable prices. As a rule, once a week each shop receives a new delivery. Well-known chains are Humana and Mania and so on.
Among the large and well-known supermarket chains – Lidl, Kaufland, Billa, My Market, CBA and so on.
The most well-known appliance shops: Technopolis and Technomarket and so on.
Building supply shops: Bauhaus, Masterhaus, Enikom, Mr.Bricolage, HomeMax, Praktiker and so on.
Sports shops: Decathlon, Sport Depot, Adidas Outlet and others. The brands are all well known – Nike, Puma and so on.

Children’s shops: Hippoland, Jumbo (you can buy everything for the home and décor).
There are shoe shops that produce their footwear in Bulgaria, for example Gido and Gabina – excellent quality and reasonable prices.
In Bulgaria there is a large chain of Russian shops called „Beryozka“, where everything is sold: buckwheat, cottage cheese, red caviar, vodka, sprats, pelmeni and more.
Every city has markets/bazaars; if the city is large, there are several of them.
