Nurseries and kindergartens in Bulgaria

Nurseries and kindergartens in Bulgaria – there are both state-run and private ones. Many parents think that in private kindergartens a child will receive more attention and knowledge, but this is not always the case. In private kindergartens, the fee is around 500 leva per month. You pay this amount every month, regardless of whether the child is ill or not attending the nursery or kindergarten. For those days of absence, you still pay the full amount. Private kindergartens have no on-site kitchen – the meals are prepared in private kitchens for the children and delivered. There are additional sections/clubs, for which you will have to pay around 5 leva per lesson.

In state kindergartens, the fee is around 50 leva per month, ten times less. The cost of clubs is 3–3.5 leva per lesson. Of course, there are more children, but the attention is by no means less. It is important to choose a responsible teacher with whom your child will feel comfortable.

In state kindergartens, meals are prepared on site.

State and private nurseries and kindergartens operate all year round. While in private facilities the groups are mixed all year, in state ones they run from 1 September to 1 June – children of the same age – and during the summer period the groups are mixed.

Admission to nursery. A child can only be enrolled once they have started walking. From 1.5–2 years old. Kindergarten accepts children from the age of 3.

Submission of documents for nurseries and kindergartens in Bulgaria

Enrolment is usually in spring. For example, in Varna, you can check on the web page where free places are still available: http://www.detski-gradini.info/gradini-i-qsli/Варна.html

And submit an application: https://dg.is-vn.bg/

To submit an application you need to register. Both your child and you must have an LNCh (personal foreigner number) and a registered address. A personal doctor. If for some reason registration does not work, I advise you to go to the kindergarten and do everything on the spot. Talk in person with the director. As a rule, they always have a couple of free places. But if you are refused at one nursery/kindergarten, go to another. Beforehand, you need to prepare for yourself a list of those childcare facilities located close to your area. Of course, it is a little harder to get into state nurseries/kindergartens because of the number of applicants, but everything is possible – the main things are your desire and patience.
