A short-stay visa may be valid for a period of up to 5 years and may be issued for single, double or multiple entry. It is issued to a foreigner who intends to transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria or reside there on a short-term basis for a period of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
Short-stay multiple-entry visas may be issued with the following periods of validity, provided that the visa's validity does not exceed the validity of the travel document:
1. up to one year, provided that the foreigner has obtained and lawfully used three visas within the past two years;
2. up to two years, provided that during the past two years the foreigner has obtained and lawfully used a previous multiple-entry visa valid for up to one year;
3. up to 5 years, provided that during the past three years the foreigner has obtained and lawfully used a previous multiple-entry visa valid for up to two years; airport transit visas are not taken into account when issuing multiple-entry visas.
A long-stay visa with a validity of up to 6 months and a right of residence of up to 180 days may be issued to a foreigner wishing to obtain a permit for prolonged, long-term or permanent residence in the country. Republic of Bulgaria on one of the grounds provided for by this Act. A long-stay visa grants the right of multiple entries into the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria during its period of validity.
